What to do
Throughout the year, Brownsville boasts plenty of activities for locals and visitors. Our community is rich with history and fantastic annual events. Whether you're in Brownsville to stay or just for a weekend, you will find plenty to do and love.
Linn County Historical Museum
A visit to the Linn County Historical museum, located in downtown Brownsville, will provide hours of enriching education about the pioneers who settled the area, the Native Americans who first inhabited the land, the local filming of the movie "Stand By Me," and so much more. Admittance is free and donations are always appreciated. You will also find a gift shop with special finds for all ages and interests. The museum is located inside a historic train station and you'll get a chance to explore some train cars as well.
The Living Rock Studios
The building housing the Living Rock Studios is a true work of art, as are the treasures inside. The structure took ten years to assemble and it's one-of-a-kind. Inside, you'll find historical artifacts, artwork, antiques, and of course, rocks. A donation of $3 is requested for entry. This is an attraction that will be enjoyed by the whole family and is not to be missed.
Local Events
Brownsville's events calendar is full all year long with a variety of activities for the whole family. Treasure hunters will love the City-Wide Garage Sale and the Antique Faire. History buffs will enjoy Carriage Me Back and the Pioneer Parade and Picnic. If you're a movie fanatic, then don't miss Stand By Me Day. Pioneer Picture gallery
Days long past are on display for visitors at the Pioneer Picture Gallery, located right downtown on Main Street. Thumb through thousands of black and white photos from pioneer days to color photos of today. You'll appreciate the tradition, activities, and architecture depicted in the snapshots and step back into a simpler time. Admittance is free and be sure to shop the gift items that help fund the Linn County Pioneer Association.
The moyer house
The Moyer House in downtown Brownsville was built in 1881 and has been restored to its original glory. This grand home features original stenciling, beautiful paintings, and recreated furnishings. Tours of this local gem are available through the museum located a block away. During some annual events, the doors are also opened for visitors to peruse the scenes of life in the 1800s.
Brownsville Parks
Plenty of enjoyable afternoons can be found at our local parks. Go for a walk through Pioneer Park that includes a children's play structure, sports fields, lots of trees and squirrels, and events buildings. It's bordered by the Calapooia River with banks to dip your feet. Kirk Ferry Park is right downtown with a basketball court and a grassy area for picnicking. This is also where you will find the seasonal Farmers Market. And a visit to McKercher Park on the outskirts of town is a must with its picnic areas, river access, and beautiful sights.
Brownsville Art Association
Brownsville has a bustling art scene of all types of media. If you're an art lover, you'll be thrilled to visit the Art Association in the City Hall building. The exhibits are frequently refreshed, so regular visits are encouraged. You'll find works by local artists in town that include paintings, photography, crafts, jewelry, sculpture, and more.
The Calapooia River
The beautiful Calapooia River runs right through Brownsville. You'll cross the river with our iconic green bridge as you enter town. The river borders Pioneer Park and hosts fascinating flora and fauna all year round. In the summertime, go for a dip or set up a chair on a riverbank and enjoy a good book. If you're an artist, you will also enjoy breaking out your pencils or easel and capturing the Calapooia River's beauty.

Brownsville Farmers Market
Our seasonal farmers market, located at Kirk Ferry Park every Thursday from 3 pm to 6 pm from May through October, is a regular stop for locals. There, you will find local honey, fruits and veggies, plants, handmade gifts, artisan baked goods, and more. The market is put on by the Calapooia Food Alliance and happens rain or shine.
Pioneer Cemetery
On the edge of town placed atop a hill is one of the oldest cemeteries in Oregon. Graves date back to the 1800s and include some of the founding fathers and mothers of Brownsville. The history is plentiful and the views are spectacular.
