Brownsville’s Historic Walking Tour

Covered Bridges Tour
Linn County has a total of eight covered bridges with many more in neighboring counties.  One of which, the Crawfordsville Bridge, is only 7 miles east on Hwy 228.  Plan your route to visit them by visiting http://covered-bridges.org/bridges.htm.

Historic Moyer House
An elegant Italianate home completed in 1881 by pioneering figures of Brownsville is open for tours.  Each year the house is decorated for the holidays by volunteers. Visit the Linn County Historical Museum for more information.

 

Linn County Historical Museum
Open nearly every day of the year and housed in Brownsville's original railroad depot, the museum holds collections and information representing all of Linn County. To learn more, click here.

Living Rock Studios
It’s more than a castle made of stone and cement, but a work of art, a wonderland of rock, art and history. Living Rock Studios is located on Hwy 228 as you enter town.

Over the Rivers – Through the Woods Scenic Byway
As you exit Interstate 5 on your way to Brownsville, you begin the Byway’s 66-mile route in the rich farmland of the Willamette Valley, and then winds along rushing streams and through thick forests as it climbs into the West Cascades and McKenzie Pass.  Click here for a printable map.

Pioneer Picture Gallery

A unique museum located in Brownsville on the corner of Park and Main.  It houses a collection of donated photos that date from the late 1800s to the present time.  The subjects of the photos feature Linn County communities, schools, people, buildings, homes and the Linn County Pioneer Picnic. Open May through Sept. on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.  Or by appointment with Leisa Keyser (541) 466-3448.

Thompson Mill State Heritage Site (Boston Mill)
Thompson's Mills is a unique reminder of times past, chronicling the past 150 years of Oregon rural life.  To learn more about the park visit the Oregon State Parks web site. Volkswalk

Sponsored by the Albany Fit Walkers, a chapter of the American Volksports Association, come walk a 5K or 10K at your own pace. Volkssports are family-oriented, amateur athletic events. Pick up your map at the Brownsville Chevron Gas Station & Mini-Mart at 203 W. Bishop Way.  This walk takes you through Pioneer Park, and the charming downtown streets. You will walk to the Pioneer Cemetery and see the resting place of the last Calapooia Native American.
