City Manager Scott McDowell Featured Presenter at Chamber Meeting

scott_mcdowellOn Thursday, November 10th at noon, the Historic Brownsville Chamber of Commerce will hold their monthly meeting in the City Hall Community Room. The featured guest speaker, Brownsville City Manager Scott McDowell, will give two important presentations that you will not want to miss.

The first presentation, “Brownsville’s Future,” focuses on much needed capital expenditures. While our city has successfully navigated through past challenges with a thoughtful use of capital funds, the years ahead portend even greater issues—aging infrastructure (park buildings, sewer lines, streets, etc.) and increased environmental regulatory oversight for the city’s water plant and river frontage. All of these issues will have major impacts on the city’s budget, which is primarily funded by a small residential tax base.

The second presentation on the “Rural Linn County Economic Development Proposal” dives into the organizational focus on helping grow existing businesses rather than attracting large national firms. Successful benchmarks include job creation, increased property values, and expansion of the tax base–all without negatively impacting the rural nature of our community.

The public is invited to attend the meeting and Mr. McDowell’s presentations. An optional light lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. for $8.00, and the free presentations start at 12:00 p.m.
